A surgical operating microscope is a stereoscopic microscope mounted to a boom stand. The boom stand can be a mobile floor stand unit or it can be mounted to a wall or ceiling. Ilumination in a surgical operating microscope must be intense and bright. Coaxial illumination is usually the choice method, as it provides a direct light with the light waves parallel to the optical path of the objective. This reduces dark areas and shadows to provide for a clear, brightly light field of view. Our surgical operating microscopes have coaxial illumination, as well as fiber optics.
The light source is a 150W halogen bulb, from which fiber optics transmit the light to the microscope head where the light is mirrored parallel to the optical path.
